I recently had the pleasure of joining a group of apprentices on a visit to the Fisheries Faculty at PSTU on March 1st, 2023, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. The faculty was our main focus, and it did not disappoint. We were fortunate enough to be guided by two brilliant minds, Dr. Md. Sazzadur Rahman and Mr. Abdulla-Al-Hasan. They showed us around the facilities, including the classrooms and state-of-the-art labs. Their enthusiasm for the subject matter was infectious, and we were all captivated by their expertise. Not only did we get an in-depth look at the Fisheries Faculty, but we also had the opportunity to explore the entire PSTU campus. The sight was truly impressive, and we were left in awe of the beauty and functionality of the university. It was an experience that we will all cherish for years to come. Overall, the visit was a great success, and we are all grateful for the opportunity to learn from such knowledgeable individuals. We came away from the experience with a newfound appreciation for the field of fisheries and a renewed motivation to pursue our own studies in the same field. Our thanks go out to Dr. Md. Sazzadur Rahman and Mr. Abdulla-Al-Hasan for making the visit so memorable and to PSTU for the hospitality they showed us during our stay. Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) is one of the fast growing new public universities in Bangladesh. The Patuakhali Science and Technology University was developed at the private initiative of the local people through the establishment of a higher secondary institute in 1972 as a private college. It was then turned to Patuakhali Agricultural College under the affiliation of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh in 1979 with the objective of producing agricultural graduates offering the BSc.Ag. (Hons.) degree. The college was nationalized on 1 February 1985 and was placed under the administrative control of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Ministry of Agricultural together with BAU affiliation. The university was inaugurated on 08 July 2000 by the then Honorable Prime Minister, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina and started its academic activities on 26 February 2002. The main campus of the PSTU is located at about 20 km north from the district town of Patuakhali and about 38 km south from the divisional city of Bar ishal. The outer campus is situated at Babuganj under Barishal district. Being the lone university in the southern region of the country, the PSTU was established primarily to facilitate easy access to quality higher education to a populace who had been deprived of this prime right for a very long time since the independence of our beloved country. Although situated in a remote area, the PSTU campus is surrounded by the traditional artistic radiant and vibrant green texture of Bangladesh. The interior of the campus is beautifully decorated with different types of natural wild plants, medicinal plants and fruit bearing trees including rows of coconut and Mehegoni trees. There are number of lakes and ponds inside the campus which have enhanced its beauty many folds. Despite having comparatively small campus, along with the academic activities, the students of the university have ample opportunities to perform different sports and cultural activities. Although the development activities of the PSTU have been grossly overlooked for many years since its inception.
